Best Practice Guidance

Recent events have highlighted how important it is have an actionable Business Continuity Plan (BCP). By having our own Plan built into Catalytic, we're able to be as quick and effective as possible when executing the Plan that we’ve designed. There’s no uncertainty about who should be involved, what steps to take, or how we put the Plan into action. The Catalytic automation allows us to build in different scenarios that are unique to our individual business, and the Plan can be activated with the push of a button. This also makes our periodic testing of the Plan simple, which gives us assurance that we can rely on the process. A BCP is unique in that it might not be needed for years at a time, but it is an essential business process that may need to be activated with little to no advance notice.

A great example of a BCP process that’s run within Catalytic is our management team’s alerts to employees with urgent news and updates. Our BCP pulls information from our master employee listing, so all employee contact information is always up to date when we need it. We can instantly send alerts to all employees with urgent messages through text, email and Slack all at once. We can also use this process to gather information or status updates from employees, including ‘marking yourself as safe’ or asking other important questions. Catalytic then automatically compiles this information, and can do things like send reminders or alert us to those who haven’t responded.

We also have key roles and responsibilities built into the process by Department, which reminds employees of their responsibilities during an emergency situation. Critical policies and procedures are documented, to ensure that essential business functions can be completed even if an employee is sick or unavailable. Tasks can also be automatically escalated as needed, and the owners of the assigned responsibilities can confirm their tasks are done within Catalytic, which helps us easily track the Plan’s progress.

The above are just a few ideas we wanted to share related to our BCP experience, and we hope they can help make this essential business process easier to manage, while at the same time giving you peace of mind.
