Web API Response Mapping vs Field: Create fields from JSON Action
Looking for clarification for the difference between using the Response Mapping
config option on Web API: Send GET Request action
:
versus the action Field: Create fields from JSON
:
These seem to be accomplishing the same thing from my testing but want to make sure I'm not missing something that would necessitate using the separate Field:
action instead of the configuration option on the Web: API
action.
Thanks in advance!

@Meghan_642561 you're correct that the two options you mentioned above should produce the same results. The configuration option in the Web API action is meant to offer flexibility if, for example, the API response returned by your action would result in hundreds of fields being created when you really only need one or two pieces of data (in which case you might choose
RAW
there to get everything back in one field, and then use a field formula to parse out exactly what you need). The Create fields from JSON action can be used with any JSON input, but if your goal is to parse a full API response into fields, you're probably better off just letting the Web API action handle that.5
